In order to save CO2 emissions, e-mobility has emerged as a key technology and is driving demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Resulting demand for battery raw materials raises the question of recycling potentials of LIBs, with projected growth of spent LIBs inevitably challenging European recycling capacity. Driven by the growing demand for battery raw materials and the legal requirements of the revised Battery Directive, this trend is expected to persist.
