Pilot Scale Processing

The objective is to provide the customer with sufficient sample material for market approval. Pilot plant equipment is accessible in house and will be arranged in response to the specific process requirements developed in lab and bench scale. The results of the technical tests also provide engineering parameters for an engineering of the scaled-up processing plant.

Valuation and Engineering

Target of the valuation is to provide technical and economic evaluation of mineral projects to be reported in a PEA (Scoping Study), PFS or FS.

The technical part of the valuation includes technical tests to verify assumptions and factored estimates for all significant machinery and installations.

Economic valuation will provide details including initial CAPEX, OPEX, financial key figures (e.g. NPV, IRR) as well as a sensitivity analyses.

ANZAPLAN producing 10 kg of Battery Grade Lithium Carbonate in its pilot plant
ANZAPLAN is proud to announce that it has recently successfully completed the production of a 10 kg bulk sample of battery grade lithium carbonate for a client in its in-house hydrometallurgical pilot plant facilities.

A bulk sample of spodumene mineral concentrate was calcined thereby transforming alpha-spodumene into the beta spodumene phase amenable to the hydrometallurgical extraction. In the subsequent acid baking and leaching, lithium was extracted from the calcine yielding a pregnant leach solution (PLS).

The PLS was then subjected to a sequence of processing steps including neutralization, Ca precipitation, ion exchange, concentration, precipitation of crude lithium carbonate and bicarbonation to obtain a refined lithium carbonate product. The final lithium carbonate product was analyzed and demonstrated to be of battery grade quality. This marks a milestone in the project.

ANZAPLAN providing lithium and graphite insight at Benchmark minerals week 2019 in Los Angeles
ANZAPLAN’s team returned from the Benchmark Battery Minerals Week which took place on November 11th – 15th, 2019 at the Ritz Carlton, Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles where they provided valuable insight in lithium and graphite processing.

The world-famous Battery Minerals Week Conference included an anode event at the beginning of the week where our managing director Dr. Reiner Haus gave an enlightening presentation on the different graphite purification methods discussing pro’s and con’s highlighting that purification needs to be tailored to each project balancing the individual factors impacting operational expenditures. The rest of the week shed some light on cathode raw material supply & demand and the pricing situation, as well as plans for megafactories and upcoming and new technologies and trends in the battery sector. Our Business Unit Director Dr. Christian Graf held a panel discussion on lithium processing discussing the importance of the collective experience of both team and external consultants advancing projects and adapting team skills to the actual project stage in order to bring them to fruition.

Made in USA - Westwater Resources engaging ANZAPLAN for product development to meet American battery demand
Westwater Resources (WWR) has engaged ANZAPLAN to accelerate product development and design its graphite pilot program for purifying graphite concentrates and producing WWR’s battery grade products. These include Purified Micronized Graphite, Delaminated Expanded Graphite and Coated Spherical Purified Graphite.

The test work and sample production ANZAPLAN will perform includes flake graphite purification, spheroidization and expansion. ANZAPLAN and WWR will collaborate to scale up laboratory sample production to pilot scale production rates, through new work anticipated to be executed over the next 8 months including:

• Defining the method, equipment and operating parameters and requirements for graphite purification;

• Defining operating parameters and equipment for processes required to manufacture WWR’s battery graphite products; and

• Designing WWR’s pilot program.
